Making Flixel Community GPU accelerated

(..) The current implementation, tracked under issue #90 on Github, is more of a prototype than a final version, since no big optimizations were performed yet. Despite of that, the results are outstanding so far.(..).
As demonstrated the blitting render was able to draw between 500 and 1000 sprites simultaneously before dropping the FPS rate. The GPU render, on the other hand, was able to draw up to 2500 sprites before dropping the 30 FPS mark. Using the amount of 2500 bunnies as a parameter, the GPU render performed 428% better than the blitting one. That is a huge performance gain!

AIRGamepad Example - Rhuno

The recently released AIR 15 beta includes an updated AIRGamepad class that lets you use your mobile Android device as a controller for your desktop AIR applications and games. I spent a little bit of time messing around with it and created the demo shown below.

I’ve uploaded the project to github if you want to check it out. Note that it requires the gamepad.swc from the AIR 15 sdk (located in frameworks/libs/air) and also the as3corelib for image encoding.

Airport Award Adventure

An interactive game installation played at Airport Terminal.

We worked with United MileagePlus in setting up an interactive, Kinect-based game called “Airport Award Adventure” at Chicago O’Hare International Airport. Travelers were invited to play while waiting for their flight. The game was developed using the following Actionscript-related technologies:

  • Adobe AIR
  • AIRKinect ANE
  • Greensock Animation Platform
  • Nape physics engine
With minimal effort, we were also able to deploy a web-based version of the game which can be played here.

Video: Many sprites in Starling framework and ActionScript 3

This video shows a game I was working on developing for mobile devices. The game is written in its entirety using ActionScript 3 with the Starling framework, and FlashDevelop IDE. I rolled my own physics/vector library, and tried to avoid garbage collection - which is the primary reason for poor performance.

The game development stopped because I don’t like the graphics (I’m not a designer), and I could not decide on a game story.

The Game is simple, drag the ball to define power and direction. The shooting height is defined depending on the position you pick up the ball (picking the ball  in the bottom you get a height shot).  The game use physics and is really simple.
This example works with a custom Dev Build library (included with the example), this library was compiled only for development and testing purposes. If you want the latest and stable version of Flare3D you can get it from our website.
Take this example as inspiration, we will be happy if you take the challenge to build your own football game, adding moves, headers,dribbling, etc…
