How to write a job post that Flash and AIR developers will answer
People with ActionScript and AIR experience are used to vague ads. A clear post stands out and saves both sides time.
Say what the codebase is
State the size and age of the project, the tools you build with and the platforms you ship to. "Large AIR app for tablets, ActionScript 3, five years old" is more useful than "exciting multimedia role".
Separate maintain from build
Tell candidates how much of the job is keeping an existing product healthy and how much is new work, including any plan to move to another runtime. Honesty here prevents early departures.
List the real requirements
- Name the three skills the person will use every day.
- Mark everything else as helpful, not required.
- Mention native extension work if it exists. It is a specialised skill.
Be concrete about the deal
Give the pay range, the working hours, the location or remote policy and the length of the contract. Then explain how to apply and what happens after.
